5 weeks post Hysterectomy - Tips for Managing PMS Post op?

Almost 5 weeks out. Kept ovaries. I struggled with extreme moodiness...anger...as hormones fluctuated before the surgery. I somehow hoped that would all go away after surgery, and it didn't. I lashed out at my daughter(who didn't deserve it) this afternoon. She has just started having periods. I explained to her that hormones can cause nasty mood changes. She cries...I get mad. She understood and didn't hold it against me. I feel great physically, but am now really getting worried about the emotional side of it. I'm not menopausal yet, although I may have had a hot flash this afternoon. Is there something any of you take to smooth out the emotions? I really don't want to do this for another 2--5 years. The sanity of my family is at stake. I would like to forget about the surgery instead of all these cyclical reminders.

I'm sorry your PMS symptoms haven't improved for you post op. Have you discussed this with your doctor? There are medications which may help. Until then, just let your loved ones know that you're doing your best and ask for their love and patience.

I hope this gets better for you!
