Upcoming hysterectomy 6/24: stressed and moving quickly (now)

I have always had wretched periods, since the age of 11. I had three vaginal births all quickly with complications in last trimester, and 3 miscarriages. 13 years ago I had my tubes tied, still trying different typs if birth control to ease menstrual bleeding. 8 years ago I had a thermal ablation that did not work. Present time ...in November I had some breast issues and after 2 failed biopsies we went for a surgical biopsy. Breast care doctor said all was benign and that it was enlarged lymphnodes she asked that I return to gyn prior to 6 month follow up so I put that off a little longer as I was determined to not have another ablation. So I went in last week had pap, called in later (sameday) for ultrasound and brief mention of hysterectomy. Went for follow up yesterday, immediate uterine biopsy and hysterectomy scheduled for Wednesday. Im a little freaked out by all of this fast paced movement

Re: stressed and moving quickly (now)

Amykins hi,

Understand your being a little freaked. You might want to read in the articles sections. What did your Dr say? Will they do a biopsy and then decide yes or no on doing the hyst. Maybe you should go in and ask more questions after you do some reading. Have you thought about a second opinion? Good luck and if you keep the date see you on the other side.

Hugs,
Anndy

Upcoming hysterectomy 6/24: stressed and moving quickly (now)

She made it sound sort of urgent. She said ascs and hpv positive along with previous pcos diagnosis it should all come out...might leave left ovary. Wont have biopsy back until tuesday but said she wont say definitively until biopsy both from endometrial biopsy snd from post op biopsy. The ablation was painful and scary so im worried about a hysterectomy. (Irrationally thinking about the what ifs) this same practice told me I would not gave a period after ablation

Re: stressed and moving quickly (now)

So the hysterectomy is scheduled before the biopsy results are back? I would advise you take a breath here, wait for results, and get an appt with a GYN oncologist, they are the specialists in GYN cancers. I don't know of any GYN cancer that would require surgery before the biopsy results are even back, and you do want the appropriate surgery done for what the biopsy shows. I know I rushed to surgery without a GYN onc opinion, only to end up having a 2nd surgery later, that could have been avoided if I'd waited for the GYN onc opinion in the beginning. Although it's tempting to rush in and just be done, there is usually time for labs and 2nd opinions. We are here for support as you sort through this.

Re: stressed and moving quickly (now)

You definitely don't want to be rushed into things. Even with a cancer diagnosis confirmed, it's not uncommon for it to be a month or so before surgery is scheduled, so there should be time for a second opinion, preferably with a gyn/onc. It's never a bad idea to get a second opinion prior to major procedures, anyway.

I also wanted to let you know you're welcome to check out our Cancer Concerns forum as well, if you'd like. There's lots of great information and ladies who've been there/done that who will help however they can.

Whatever the case, you WILL be able to handle things, and you definitely aren't alone!
