Re: nausea

I had sedation with a surgery before and I didn't have the same effects that I had with general. In recovery I remember thinking how lucky I was to not have nausea while the patient next to me was heaving. You can ask them to give you an anti-nausea drug before surgery. I had zofran because I had a bad reaction to compazine before. Yes it weird not to be able to feel your legs but part of the reason why you don't feel them is because you are numb to fight off pain. I'd rather have numb legs than have the side effects of drugs given I.V. and deal with pain in the belly at the same time. I had NO pain whatsoever and was so happy. My family was shocked I was feeling so good and the kids even got to come visit me a few hours after surgery because I was aware and not druggy. Spinals and Epidurals

My doc wants to use a general anesthetic plus an epidural to help with the pain when I wake up. Anyone had this? Does it really help? I'm sure glad we only go through a hysterectomy once! I'm also very appreciative of this forum/website. Thank you!

Epidural

Lisa,

My Aunt is an Anesthetist(SP) Nurse, she recommended to me an Epidural. I felt like throwing up after my last surgery after General in Feb. I have to admit though that I had a good nurse and she immediately put some meds in my IV, and the nausea left. But, my Aunt told me that the Epidural is also good for pain management. Believe me Lisa, that will help you get up and going faster. I didn't have any pain meds when I had my C-Section, and so therefore, it was very hard to walk.

I have been given the Okay for an Epidural. I had my Pre-op today, and now only 10 days!!! (((YIKES)))!!!

Had general and epidural

Cookie

I had a general for the hyst and and epidural for 48 hours post for the pain relief side of it. For me, it was just the absolute best. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Best part of the whole thing? No barfing whatsoever postop. And no itching from morphine.

Cheers

Gail
