Surgery Rescheduled after heart scare

Well... I am back. I was supposed to have my surgery April 30th, which was postponed when I was told I had an abnormal EKG during pre-op testing. I went to a cardiologist and went through several more tests which all proved to be abnormal. I finally was told there was a good chance I had a blockage and would need angioplasti and a stent put in. I went in last Thursday for a cardiac catheterization... boy was I scared. I was a lucky one though. There was no blockage of any atteries and it appears I just have an abnormal heartbeat that is normal for me, complete with t-wave inversions that they can't figure out. So... today I was told that I could reschedule my hysterectomy. My wonderful OB/GYN is out this week and I am waiting for his return. My surgery is scheduled now for next week, Tuesday, May 21st at 8:30am.

Lying on that table in the cath lab put things in perspective though. I am glad that there was no serious heart condition but I was prepared for bad news, since it seemed so unlikely I would have any other. One of the few comments I remember though from a nurse is, "Oh honey... you're having a hysterectomy. This is nothing compared to that!" So... now I get to go back to worrying about the hysterectomy. I am a school librarian and I am just about finished with the school year though, so I will have all summer to get back on my feet in my own time. I am glad to be back on schedule, but I feel like a pin cushion and I need to work my nerve back up. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me throughout this latest ordeal.

Hooray for your arteries and heart! At least you only have a few more days left and did not have to wait months to reschedule! Now you know for certain that your arteries are healthy! Don't worry too much. It will get here soon!

Kathleen

That is wonderful news about your heart. I'm so glad everything turned out great. And that is so good that your doctor could get you in so fast and you don't have to worry too long. I know you will do ok.

Hi Kathleen,

I'm so glad that your heart cath showed no blockages and that your hysterectomy was able to be re-scheduled so quickly.

Please try not to get too worried about the hyst - it is major surgery, but being prepared and knowing what to expect will make your recovery much easier.

Be sure to post any questions that you have, and get as much rest beforehand as possible.
