Now, no radiation...chemo!

Hi everyone!

Just after I posted my update about getting the radiation/chemo treatment, my doctor called back and offered me another option.

She was worried about the damage that might be caused to the apron of skin by the radiation so one of her colleagues suggested 3 doses of cisplatin chemo over a six week period.

So, I had my first chemo on Monday and so far, so good. I had a little nausea last night and today, but it is nothing that the meds they gave me to take at home can't handle.

So, once the three rounds of chemo are done, hopefully, the tumor will be reduced enough that we can get it all out with the hysterectomy. We are looking tentatively at mid-July for that.

Thanks for being here through all of my ups and downs and thanks for the information about your experiences!

You'll Make It

I didn't have cisplatin (but had a relative, carboplatin). Hopefully you've researched it so you're aware of what can be the side effects, but remember that just because a number are listed, you won't necessarily have them. I skipped many of the Taxol/carboplatin side effects, including a couple that are so common I "should have" had them. Nope. Chemo is cumulative, but with three, you may do very well. I like to be informed, so I research as much as possible. Hopefully the chemo will do just what it's supposed to do and knock that tumor for a loop so the hysterectomy does the rest. And...chemo is TEMPORARY. Yes, a change in plans, but it sounds as if your doctor is going with the best for you--that's what counts.

So at least the cure is underway!!!! Hopefully you will have no problems at all with the three cycles. And the hyster will take care of the rest. Sounds like a good plan to me. Keep in touch.

I also had the Carboplatin type for one of my treatments as Margaret mentioned and she's so right on the side effects. I believe that our Maria had Cisplatin for hers, I'm sure she'll be along to share her experience with this type.

I hope your side effects are few and that it does its job well for you. I'm so glad to hear that your Dr's are taking such good care of you and want to make sure you won't have any damage.

Please keep us posted on how its going for you, we will all be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
