I'm 32 and facing a SAH...

Okay, so I'm a little bit behind in reading this thread, but I wanted to say that I'm 36 and had an SAH about 4 weeks ago. If you search for posts by me you can read more details about my experience, but suffice to say I've had no problems whatsoever during my recovery, and I found the surgery to be a breeze. I was out the hospital in 24 hours and once home, didn't need any pain meds other than the occasional Advil.

I chose an SAH done under a spinal block because I needed a large and painful fibroid removed, but I was looking for a "minimally disruptive" surgery that would have a quick recovery time. By leaving in my cervix, no extra repair work or cutting was done around my bladder, and I didn't have a cervical opening that needed to heal. I came out of surgery with a 4" incision sealed with Steristrips, and I felt as if I'd done some really heavy-duty sit-ups! I had to take it easy for the first two weeks, but after my two week checkup, my doctor cleared me for swimming, light vacuuming, etc. I still have a bit of numbness around my incision as it continues to heal, but the only side-effect of surgery that has stuck around is fatigue by late afternoon. I'm always ready for bed around 5pm

I wish you all the best with whatever you decide. I went into surgery in fairly good physical condition and was lucky to have had no complications, so I think those things, combined with my age, have helped my recovery be uneventful.
