July 8th is "H" day

Well, here I am. 37, and scheduling my hysterectomy for prolaps uterus and what they've called a vaginal hernia posterior...hmmm...that's a nice way to say BM's gettin stuck in the wrong spot I suppose. Anyway, I've been trying to sych myself up for this for quite some time and am very nervous about the general anethsesia. Any suggestions? Also, my Dr. said I'll be recovering from what will be like an enormous epesiotomy (sp?). I've never had one of those either. I've never had pain with periods, or excessive bleeding...so I feel weird going in to have this done. I'm really confused, but know this is the right thing to do.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Julianne!

Boy it doesn' t sound like you're in for a fun time of it! I haven't experienced anything like what you are describing. I had a TAH because they discovered an unknown mass then when they got in, my right ovary and tube were full of cysts so they felt it was best to take them. Here's sending you hugs knowing that there is someone on this website who will be able to help you!
Good luck and God bless!

Hi Julianne,

Welcome to Hystersisters. I'm glad that you found us and that you posted your question. See the A & P in my signature? That stands for Anterior and Posterior repairs, also known as a cystocele (bladder prolapse) and rectocele (bowel prolapse) which I had, along with the uterine prolapse.

Here's a link to a site that will explain all about prolapses:
http://pages.prodigy.com/prolapse.html/

You are fortunate to have a doctor who explained it to you. Mine didn't, and so I wasn't prepared for the discomfort from the stitches. You will want to have a "donut" pillow to sit on so that you do not place pressure on the area that has been stitched. I didn't get one for a couple of days after my surgery, and was very uncomfortable riding home in the car. ( My daughter found it at a drug store.)

Also ask your doctor about using a Peri bottle to bathe the area with water and whether he will prescribe a numbing-type of spray, if needed. I bought some Tucks, which have witch hazel, and used them to numb the area when needed. Please be sure to ask your doctor what he wants you to use. I found that the episiotomy part was more uncomfortable than the actual hyst, but I was able to keep the pain well under control.

Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
