Upcoming hysterectomy: On warfarin due to PE caused by very large fibroids

Hello !
I'm new to the site but already finding it really supportive reading old posts . I'm 48 and currently recovering from PE in both lungs . The Dr couldn't find an underlying DVT and I kept saying could it be my fibroids but they dismissed as unlikely until they examined me and found that they are now the size of a 6 month pregnancy so almost certainly caused the DVT in one of the pelvic veins . I'm now on warfarin and scheduled for hysterectomy June / July this year which will be 3 months after the PE . What dr is suggesting is that they take me off warfarin and put me onto heparin pre and post the surgery but it means I'll likely be in hospital longer . Has anyone else had this happen ? And did you have any complications pre / during or after surgery because of it ? Can't deny I'm pretty scared right now but know it needs to be done . They've also said that if they find a clot they might need to put an IVC in to stop it travelling to my lungs pre surgery which adds another complication ..

Hi Jumpalot to HysterSisters!

I am so glad you found this site! I am sorry you have been going through all of this.

All of your emotions, fears and anxiety are very normal. This is a difficult surgery to face and digest. When you add on possible complications, it makes it that much harder.

I wish I could provide advice but I cannot. We do have lots of women on this site, so hopefully one with similar experience to yours will see this post and respond.

Do know that you are not alone. We are here to help and support you.
