Return to Work

I am a confessed workaholic. Has anyone had a TAH and returned to work before the suggested 6 week period? I am just curious, the nurse told me in isolated cases patients have been allowed to go back to work before the 6 weeks was over.

Before I set my self up for disappointment ( or a relapse) I would like to know if anyone has any information.

I just discovered this web site and it has been a God send!

thanks
Rose

Return to Work

Hi there. I am 7 weeks post op tomorrow. I went back to work for 1 day last week and 2 days this week, I will go back full time next monday. My doctor had me off for 8 as I cought a cold 2 weeks post op. I was feeling great at 4 weeks and probably could have come back part time. The getting tired fast probably would have been and issue and the fact I had no mental clarity. My doctor warned me, you will feel good but don't do it. If you can take the time it is better. Don't make any committments before the 6 week mark. If you feel good you can do it part time occasionally. I am glad I listened, I feel wonderful now.

Welcome!

Hi, Rose! Welcome to HysterSisters--a most wonderful site! Glad you are finding some helpful info here. Here is a link to one doctor's expectations for recovery after a hyst. http://www.wdxcyber.com/nbleed13.htm There have been some women who just could not afford to take off 6-8 weeks from work, but that is the ideal time to allow your body enough time to heal. Bonnie is right about feeling easily tired and also having some brain fog even 6 weeks post op. This is major surgery, and you want to heal properly the first time, and not risk any complications from too much activity too soon. (It took me 8 weeks before I went back to normal routine.)

If you haven't read the pull-down menus for Ladies in Waiting, click on the 3 princesses at the top of the page and scroll down to find lots of stories and hints from previous princesses. Read all you can here and ask any questions you have. It will help you feel more prepared for your hyst and recovery. I know I felt much calmer and comfortable knowing what to expect. We will be here to support you on this journey! s and best wishes!
