I realize there is a hyster sister book available here on the site, but I'm wondering if, in addition, there were any books that really helped you through this time. My info from my doc was quite limited and I am looking for a medical book, preferably written by docs, to help me along this path. What books did you find particularly helpful?

When I was in my first few months post-op, a friend gave me a book called "This is Not Your Mother's Menopause" (sorry I can't remember who wrote it, but I'm sure with a little research you can find it if you're interested) that was pretty interesting if you're into natural stuff. The author of this book did not want to go on hrt for her own reasons and it tells her story of finding her way thru menopause using all natural products, herbs and supplements. She did go thru natural menopause (although at a kind of young age if I remember right) so it's different than dealing with a hyst but there was a lot of good info in the book.

John Lee

Everyone has recommended John R Lee's book. I have not read it yet. It was sold out at my bookstore but if you go to the hystersister book suggestions there are quite a few there. I have none that are specifically are for "surgical Menopause". I would like to find one that is geared more toward that more than aging menopause because surgical is immediate menopause. A lot of emotional/hormonal changes happen at an alarming rate. Also, I contacted NAM and they are supposed to have clinicians for each state that will answer questions in addition to the wonderful help that hystersisters provide. Also, go to the chat room. The women there are wonderful.

I found "The Woman's Guide to Hysterectomy" to be quite helpful and informative---written by Adelaide Haas, Ph.D., & Susan L. Puretz.
