Have developed crippling joint pain, Dr. prescribed Sandrena Gel (estrogen) Anyone else?

Hi, I had an Abdominal Hysterectomy in 2012, leaving only one ovary which has since died. I coped with the hot flushes, lack of sleep, vaginal dryness, anxiety and stress incontinence, keeping quiet and putting up with it to avoid HRT. But I lost the plot recently when I developed crippling joint pain. I will practically have to roll out of bed in the mornings and it takes me 4-5 minutes to get to my feet. Once up and moving things improve until I sit inactive for more than 20 minutes. Then the whole thing starts again to get moving. Tested for arthritis. Nope. Told it was menopause. Never heard of joint pain as a symptom. So I sourced a menopause specialist and surrendered to Sandrena Gel, an estrogen replacement gel. (1mg)

Only 7 days in but wondering how long it will take to kick in? Or how long before I know it's not working. Seriously I've had enough. All I want to do lately is cry. I walk like I'm 85 years old not 52. And getting in and out of the car is awful. I was on an anti-inflammatory for a while but they won't let me have any more. Anyone else use Sandrena or have joint pain?

Re: Have developed crippling joint pain, Dr. prescribed Sandrena Gel (estrogen) Anyone else?

I had my hyster leaving one ovary 1.5 years ago. I too have terrible joint - and musle - pain. I have a bad knee from an injury and it's been throbbing lately, rarely bothered me before surgery. My back aches and my thighs get so sore if I sit too long. It kind of feels like the kind of body aches you get with the flu. Speaking of the flu I had my flu shot a couple weeks ago and two days later is when the pain really came on full force - not sure if vaccine related or not.

I also get hip and knee pain at night which wakes me up from a sleep. I just can't get comfortable.

I don't have much advice, just want you to know you are not alone and I feel like an old lady too and I'm 45! Not fun! Awful, in fact.

I hope you get some relief soon. I'll probably be making a doctor's appointment.

Was happy with the surgery, now I'm not so sure!

Take care and keep us posted.

Have developed crippling joint pain, Dr. prescribed Sandrena Gel (estrogen) Anyone else?

Hi, I just had to reply as what you have written could have been written by me!! I am 41 years old and had a hysterectomy last year removing everything except one ovary, sadly since the operation my ovary has died so I have been put onto Sandrena Gel, an estrogen replacement gel. (1mg).

I've been on the gel now for just over 3 weeks but this last week I have had nothing but joint pain . My right hip (the same side I still have my ovary) is extremely painful, my fingers and wrists swell and I just feel utterly fed up. I'm so emotional and cry all the time! I'm also on antidepressants and have been for years since my miscarriages and diagnosis.

I just wondered if things have worked out for you now as I see your thread was a long time ago.

Any help or advice would be so much appreciated.

Thank you
