Found a new doc today!

Hi Everyone,

I went to meet yet another gynecologist today. I was originally scheduled for a hyster in April, before they decided I needed open-heart surgery first! Anyway, I never really felt comfortable with the doctor that was going to do it, I'd met her ONCE, she didn't even examine me, and came in with a pamphlet explaining why she though I didn't need the hyster! She was going to do it anyway, but I felt like she thought I was stupid for having it done.

Well, today I met a new that I really feel is "on the same page" as I am. This is the 4th one I've seen since last fall and it's the first one I feel completely comfortable with. He plans on doing a LAVH sometime in September.

He thinks I should be able to keep my ovaries, unless of course they look bad, which is exactly what I was going to ask him to do anyway! Because of the heart surgery, I'm on Coumadin for 8 weeks, and he wants me to be off of it for a while before more surgery, and also wants my to be as strong as possible.

He asked if I had any kids in school, we have one starting kindergarten and one starting H.S., so he said he thinks it would be best if I got the school shopping done, and got them started in their school routines before having the surgery done. I like the way this guy thinks!

He doesn't seem to think it will be a risk to wait that long as it could take at least 5 years before my cervical CIS, (surface cancer), turns into invasive cancer. Also my surgery will now be done at the same hospital that my heart surgey was done, so if he needs to confer with the cardiac surgeon, they're both in the same area etc.

My goal now is to get as healthy as I can before September, I walked a mile on my treadmill today, have been going to cardiac rehab 2-3 times a week. It's more exercise than I've done in a long time, but it feels good. This is all to get my heart back in shape, but if I continue it, it will help after the hyster too! I've lost a little weight post-op, which is great, I could stand to lose lots more, and plan to keep working at it, (wish me luck).

s, Jean

I Like That New Doctor Too

It's very important to have a doctor you like and trust--this one sounds like a winner! Congratulations on that cardiac rehab as well.

Your situation is sounding better and better. A doctor that even cares about what is happening at home. And it is probably for the best that both of your doctors are connected to the same hospital. That will make it even easier for the cardiologist to give final clearance for the gyn surgery.
And you go girl with that treadmill!!!! You may have just inspired me to get back on my own machine.
Glad to hear your recovery is going so well. Keep in touch over the summer.

I'm so happy you were able to find a Dr that you feel comfortable with, that's soooo important.

It sure does sound like you are on the same page and planning ahead regarding the caridiologist and getting your kids in school, sounds great gal!! Way to go gal!

I hope the rehab goes well and you'll soon be back in tip top shape ready for your hyst.

Thanks for sharing your great news!!!
