6 weeks post hysterectomy: Please tell me this will get easier

Hi Everyone, I've just joined and wanted to ask if this will get easier I'm just over 6 week post op and feel so fed up and desperate to hear that there is light at the end of the tunnel!

I've read some posts from years ago and hope that all these people have recovered well and are back to there normal lives - at the moment I just don't feel like this will ever happen.

I know. I keep telling myself that all the pain and problems I had before are now gone. The surgical pain and tiredness and long healing process will eventually pass....it has to right?!?! I finally went to library and loaded up on books because tv and movies were getting to be to boring for me. I think I just did to much at beginning and now have decided must be princess. Find something that you enjoy and can do comfortably and pamper yourself. Hang in!!!!

Re: Please tell me this will get easier😪

I am 6 days away from my first year anniversary! I can tell you - it gets better and better and better.

At 6 weeks post op, I was still dealing with a complete and total lack of stamina. I was napping daily and going to bed early. I was still dealing with a bit of pain and pressure whenever I did too much. I was still taking ibuprofen and icing my belly and using an ice pack in my underwear (a frozen, water-soaked maxi pad worked so well.) I wasn't cleared for sex until 8 weeks due to a slow healing vaginal cuff. Oh - and my boobs had been hurting since about day 3 post op and were still hot and throbbing at 6 weeks post op.

Healing took so much longer than I anticipated. But. It was worth it. It was so very worth it. This surgery is the best thing I have ever done for my own health. I was freed from bleeding months on end, blood transfusion, painful, miserable sex, cancelled plans, constant pain, ruined underwear and pants and sheets and towels.

Hang in there. It gets better. It really does.

Thanks for the support Mindy Lee!

I'm feeling very low at the moment - haven't got any fight left in me.

The recovery is so tough and they don't warn you about this do they?

If your feeling bad emotionally you need to reach out to your dr.! Hormones are all scrambled right now and can making you feel down!

I had some adult coloring books that I colored in to help pass the time and it was quite fun! I'm planning on continuing!

Bottom line, listen to your body and communicate with your dr. About how you feel physically and emotionally!

It will get better!
Hugs!

Re: Please tell me this will get easier😪

No they don't warn you at all...that is why this site was such a valuable resource for me through my recovery.

But don't despair...it will get better. I found the 3 month and 6 month marks to be very big milestones in my recovery. It may sound lame but it wasn't until after the 3 month point that I could finally walk upright (not bent over with pain) all day and all night. And I had a persistent pain in my lower right pelvic area that took 6 months to go away.

I still get some aches and pangs at the 7 month point but I do have a VERY physical job that requires a lot of lifting so I believe it is responsible for most of my problems at this point.

Hang in there...this will all soon be a distant memory and you will be able to enjoy the new you.

Thanks for the support - goodness I have a way to go then! They tell you 6 weeks but that's so far from the truth...... very disappointing - I will hang in there take each day as it comes and try and deal with what this recovery is throwing at me!

Appreciate this site as helps to know you're now alone thanks again
