party oh no

Ok, here I go, feeling sheepish and the nausea just does not want to stop. I went to a 50th birthday party yesterday and had 3 glasses of champagne in a 5 hour period. I was just sitting down chatting happily till I started to feel weird and I just made it to the car. It took us an hour to get back home (10km) because I was so sick I wanted to die. Dear hubby could not go faster than 40k's and I was retching after every corner he took. I think it must be something like an allergic reaction to the alcohol after the anaesthesia. Today I had to cancel everything and had a full day in bed with hickups and nausea. The thought of champagne makes me cringe.... Has any of you had reactions like this? I hope not, would not wish this self induced suffering on any of you.

So sorry you had this awful experience. I think you may be right about the reaction with the post op meds. In addition to residual anesthesia, are you still taking any pain pills? That could also be a factor here. Alcohol and meds can be a dangerous combination.

Hi Nat!

I posted about this about a week ago. I didn't have the nausea you describe but I sure did feel the effects of a beer in a more intensified way. (I went to a birthday party too.)

The responses to that thread mentioned that anaesthesia sticks around in your system for awhile. Because I felt really well and hadn't been on any pain meds for over a week, I thought a beer would be okay. Nope.

Hope you start to feel better really soon.
