Postpartum emergency hysterectomy, warning pregnancy/children discussed

It's not just that Rebecca knows of my struggle...that actually doesn't seem to be an issue for her. But she has scars clear across her abdomen that daily remind her of her own struggle to survive, which is hers alone. Her first surgery was 50% odds of survival.

Today, she is a bouncy, sassy, bright almost 7-year old who has an old soul. I don't see her as "burdened" with it...she's fascinated with pictures of herself as a "sick baby" (we don't send these to school, needless to say) and wants to be a doctor taking care of babies like she was when she grows up.

My mom pulled that trick with me as well. I always just presented Rebecca's birth to her as a fact of her life...like her brown hair and her brown eyes. And she has a very strong, religious sense of just what a miracle all of our lives are.
