Six years and it's hit me

Had a TVH almost 8 months ago at the age of 35 for cervical cancer. I had no risk factors. I have often thought "why me?" I have my days where it all catches up to me.
I try to focus on all of the wonderful things in my life. I have so many. There are so many people less fortunate in this world. That is not to minimize all that you or I have been through. We're entitled to mourn our losses. We just need to remember all that we have.

Six years and it's hit me

I felt and still feel exactly like you. I wanted/want to know what caused my cancer so that I would never again do whatever it was! Since I never got an answer except for "it could be blah blah, or may be, or we just don't know, etc..."

I did seek counselling from a mental health professional after a year and a half. It was so good to speak openly to someone that I had no emotional bond with. Well, she was able to refer me to some books to read and listened carefully to whatever I wanted to talk about.

At the time of my surgery, I was so brave. I held my head up high, and filled myself with courage that I never knew I had. For the first time in my life, I "turned it over to the Lord", as I have always heard. Well, at some point, as you said happenned to you, it all came back crashing down on me.

Now, my counselor referred my to a psychologist who has prescribed some drugs for me to use to help with anxiety/depression. I feel much better, but we haven't found the right drug yet.

I am a control freak, so after realizing that trying to handle this on my own was not working, I gave in and went for help.

I hope that you know that you have a wonderful life ahead of you. I am sending you positive vibes right now! Find something to do that you enjoy to give your mind a break. I took tennis lessons, and now am enjoying meeting new friends and getting exercise too. When I really whack those balls, I am releasing tension too.

God bless you, you have come so far.
