At 6 wk. visit dr. put me on premarin .625. I have not been on any hrt before. went through menopause at age 49, now i'm 56, took no hrt, just plenty of calcium, mag tablets. I already notice a change in my temperment, not for the best. Even asked my family dr. , he said I should go ahead and take them.
any advice would be appreciated.

Colleen,

I'm sorry the medication is making you feel lousy. Ovaries do put out small amounts of hormones even after menopause, and that may have been your doctor's rationale. Still, I'm curious as to why s/he recomends it now (especially your family doc) when you had not before. :confuse:

I kept 1 ovary. dr didn't had very hard time getting right one out, decided to leave the left ovary in, he did check it out said he saw no trouble by leaving it in place. he thought surgery for it was going to be too invasive. had my records changed to my Do. Dr. from MD> DO. dr. has recomended hrt before, I just didn't want it. I'm checking into the the no hrt site now. I don't feel sick just my temperment is shorter. Trying not to let it show to dh and ds's. and grandchildren.

Colleen,

There is no right or wrong HRT answer - the medical literature is quite mixed now and all of us need to make that call for ourselves. You know, there is a lower .3-something premarin dose, which is supposed to be just enough for bone support (although I've also heard that most bone loss occurs right after menopause ).

Also, if one wants HRT, permarin isn't for everyone, and there are other choices.

I Was on calcium/mag. tablets since before menopause. thanks Thought dr. would talk more about alternatives. They didn't want to take the time. Go back to surgeon july 18, hopefully he will talk more then. also on Ditropan. I don't like to take drugs, prefer vit. and minerals.

thanks so much

Colleen....
I am no expert, but am an "expert" researcher!! You may want to ask you Dr. about raloxifene or tamoxifen... they aren't estrogen's but are shown to help decrease the risk of osteoporosis, which is why they put post-menopausal women on HRT in the first place....... I am with Dorrie, why would your doctor put you on Premarin when you are post-menopausal??? I guess I would so some research and talk to your Dr. again??? Good luck! Joni.
