Belly still swollen

Its been 5 1/2 months and I jazzercise 3 x week. My stomach is still not real big but flabby I guess since surgery. My pants fit okay except when i go to zip because of the stomach being swollen , so I am going to have to go one size up. How long does it take or does it ever go back down?


Looking forward to hearing some answers!

Hi Sisterwoman!

I am 10 months post op (not very physically active) and still get swelly belly on occasion. It does get better and my Dr. says it is normal, but I too am very disgusted with it!

Just wanted to let you know that you are still within the "normal" range for this problem, i think.

It will get better !!

Hi there!!

I am 10 mo. post-op also & still get the swelly belly thing a lot more than I would like. And as Basketnut said, you are still within the normal range for this. I f you are still real concerned about it you could always give your dr. a call.
I'm glad that you are working out- thats great !! If you had an abdominal surgery it will take a lot of work to get your stomach toned. After those muscles are cut they are hard to get back in shape but it can be done. I have had 3 c-sections with a 6 in. vertical incision & have pretty much given up the idea of a flat stomach .

(((Sisterwoman)))) I remember very well how I felt when I still had the Swelly Belly.... noticed I used the past tense ... I was sooooo discouraged.

I had a TVH and, for me, it meant that I looked about 5 months pregnant. I was 8 months post-op when it finally vanished

I'm happy you're working out... a sure sign that you are moving on Beyond the Land of Hyster.... however, one thing to remember is that Swelly Belly is not fat, but swelling due to tissues healing. The only thing that really helped me keep under control was to rest, with my feet up. I know that it gets harder and harder to do so as you move on into your recovery, but it is still the best way to deal with it.

Take heart, Sisterwoman: you're on the Road to Recovery and should be starting to notice the belly going doing very soon.

Of course, if you are worried or concerned, don't be afraid to touch base with your doctor: it's always the right time to act on the safe side.
