Question - shall I start HRT? if yes, shall I use estrogen only or combination of estrogen and progesterone? shall I start HRT? if yes, shall I use estrogen only or combination of estrogen and progesterone?

Hi, I am so glad to find this site. This is my first post. I had a complete hysterectomy due to fibroid and left ovary due to emdometriosis and bilateral tubes in November, 2016. I decided to keep right ovary since it was healthy and I was hoping it will work to produce female hormones to maintain my general health (I was 48, had regular period) after the surgery. Unfortunately I started to have hot flashes and heavy sweating several days after the surgery. The severity of hot flashes and sweating suddenly decreased about 2 week ago (7-8 week post-op), I still have mild hot flashes and mild sweating but it is only once a day. I feel very sleepy, low energy, irritated, forgetfulness--I think these are menopause symptoms. My surgeon refused to give me HRT, because my FSH=10 after surgery, because I have one ovary left inside of me & should produce female hormones, and because I have endometriosis. HRT will stimulate endometriosis to come back again. On the contrary, my ob/gyn checked my FSH again 2 months after the surgery, it was 46, and my estrogen and progesterone levels were at lower end of normal range. He was sure i have menopause, and put me on Bioidentical compounded hormone cream (estrogen and progesterone) & told me I can use it forever. I am confused,

I wonder if I need HRT, if yes, shall I use estrogen replacement only or use combination of estrogen & progesterone? I am worried about HRT's side effect: increases risk of ovarian and breast cancer, but without HRT, I am worried about increased risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, dementia. Thank you in advance. I appreciate your insights.

We're sending positive thoughts!
