I'm going camping

My mother says it's not a good idea. I don't see why not. I will have all the amenities of home (flushing toilets, showers). I won't have to pack, unpack, prepare meals, etc. Will just fish, walk, read, laze around for this beautiful summer. I think it's time to start enjoying the summer I've mostly missed. Am I crazy?

I'm going camping

Looks like you are about a month post-op. What does your doctor say? Have you asked if camping would be ok?

Personally, I don't know how comfortable sleeping on the ground, a cot or camping pad would be right now. Also, public toilets and showers are not always the cleanest. The fishing, rest, and short walks sound great. If your doctor has no concerns about camping I would say go for it. However, if your doctor feels you should wait a bit I would. Give the doc a call and see what they say.

I'm going camping

Aren't you still recivering from the incision reopening and infection? Who's going to pitch the tent, cook & clean up afterward? How far from civilization will you be in case you have further complications?

On one hand I'm jealous! Your surgery was the day before mine --- I would LOVE to go camping, but it's out for me for this year because of the surgery (I don't feel up to it yet)! On the other, I agree with Lynn Mary --- please check with the doctor first!

I just got back from camping, and we have a tent. The kids and the DH did all the hard stuff and I just relaxed. We went to my SIL's place they have a lake. So I got to take showers everyday. Just remember that you are still recovering and have fun. It is much better that sitting in a boring house at least you can work on your tan. I just couldn't get in the water
Just remember to have someone tell you to move it you fall asleep in the sun, I am burnt from falling asleep in the shade that moved on me!!

I'm going camping

I asked the Dr. when he was reopening my incision on Friday if it would be okay to go camping. He told me as long as I kept it clean and covered, it would be fine. My mother is the only one disagreeing with me so far. Of course, the DH thinks I am superwoman, but he does do everything for me. We're going with friends and they have kids, but they're older and so we're going to relax. I'm not going to do anything, but work on some crossword puzzles, throw a line out into the lake to fish, and work on my tan since I can't swim. We'll be about 45 minutes from civilization, but I think that in an emergency, we can get help quickly. (Fortunately or unfortunately our cell phones will work there, lol) 's

I'm going camping

Although I am still pre-op, (9 days and counting) we have our annual camping trip schedule at exactly my 4 week mark in August. Of course the trip was planned long before the surgery was. Though I do plan on talking with my doctor, I have found in all of our previous trips that I do less work camping than I ever do at home. SO does all the cooking when we camp and the kids do all the clean up. The only thing different this year is that I can't help SO with the setup and breakdown. If the doctor approves it, kick back and enjoy.

I'm going camping

Had to let you know. Went camping and all went well for me. However, my poor DH had an accident. When he was cutting wood for the fire a piece of log flew up and cut his chin through to his mouth. I had to drive an hour to the ER (I went slowly due to twisty turny dark road). Now is the proud owner of 7 external stitches and 2 internal stitches. I'm thinking of changing my name to Murphy. Take care and 's
