not possible...right!

Hello group, I am new here and have spent about the last hour and a half just wishing I had run into you all months and months ago. I have been having wierd periods for at least 3 years. But I chose to ignore what was going on with my body, not to mention that I hadn't had a PAP or internal exam for 6 years. Stupid I know but our youngest has special needs and has been the focus of my preoccupation. Anyway 4 months ago I braved the exam only to be sent from specialist to specialist. My latest Doc did a endo biopsy and uterine biopsy along with sono, repeat PAP and exams. She said my sono concerned her and my endo biopsy concerns her as well she wants me to have a D&C and started talking about a Hyst. She said she'd have to run more tests but she is concerned about cancer. Then she left the room! :mad 20 minutes later her nurse comes back to tell me to get dressed and make an appt. for the D&C. I left stunned, confused, and scared out of my mind. I called the office yesterday but was informed my doc who apparently has several specialities is at one of her other offices. The nurse said she couldn't tell me much yet. So what the heck am I looking at any ideas. Please help. Daytona

s Daytona

Glad to hear you are finally taking care of yourself!!! We women do have a way of pushing our own needs aside.
It's ashame your gyn was not more specific with the results from the testing she performed. And now it is D & C time. If you think she is technically skilled, it is probably fine for her to do the D & C. If you are developing doubts about her, it is time for a second opinion with a gyn oncology doc.
Like I always say, they are the experts. If your gyn does perform the D & C and the results are in any suspicious, make certain you see a gyn onc for a second opinion.
My own problems were very different than yours. Hopefully some of the ladies who share your problem will be along with more advice.

HI DAYTONA,
MY GYNE GAVE ME THE D&C LAST SEPTEMBER. THE RESULTS
CAME BACK AS ENDOMETRIAL CANCER, NOW THAT IS A SLOW GROWING CANCER AND IS ALL CONTAINED SO DON'T GET ALL SHOOK!!!
IF SHE IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE ENDO BIOPSY THAN GO FOR THE D&C, THIS WILL CONFIRM IF THERE ARE ANY BAD CELLS THERE. IF NOT , GREAT!! IF THEY ARE BAD THAN SHE WILL ( OR SHOULD ) SEND YOU TO SEE A ONOCOLOGIST/GYNE. MINE DID AND I HAD A HYST IN NOVEMBER. NO FURTHER TREATMENT AS IT WAS CAUGHT IN THE EARLY STAGES.
GOOD LUCK AND DON'T GET TOO NERVOUS ABOUT THIS. YOU WILL BE FINE ONCE THEY GET THE PATH REPORT BACK AND YA KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR DEALING WITH.
SOMEONE ELSE SHOULD BE ALONG SHORTLY WITH PERHAPS MORE INFO FOR YOU.

Daytona,
Since you're already taking care of a child with special needs, I have no doubt you're a very strong and resourceful woman who knows how to get what she needs for her family. You are part of your family.

Knowing that you can already handle anything, try not to worry. Definitely make an appointment with a gyn oncologist. It's best to know for sure - the unknown is the scariest.

As my doctor said, if you have to have cancer (and with my family there was no doubt) this is the kind you want - slow growing and very curable.

As this site says "Nothing but good news" so we'll wait to hear from you.

I have to get off the net to go get my hair colored. Can't go to the castle with grey roots. :hair:

Hugs,
Laura

Hi Daytona

I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. It was already at the cancer stage when found but fortunately only a Grade 1.
My doc also said "if you have to get one this is the one to get".
He was the second one I saw. The first surgeon I had met with was very brief, not informative and I also left his office scared out of my mind. I decided, and rightly so, to seek another surgeon.
My surgery and recovery have all gone extremely well. I can't believe it is 5 months since my surgery and I am feeling great. In fact better than before.
For most of us, myself included, they get it all with the surgery. No treatments are needed. My follow-ups have been fine too.
I know it is a scary time. Keep reading here and coming for support and to get your questions answered. The more you know the more peace of mind you will have to get you through whatever comes your way.
Please make sure you are comfortable with the doctor/surgeon you will work with. And yes a 2nd or 3rd opinion is always valuable. I hope a D&C works for you. However if you need a hysterectomy you will make it through and be just fine.

Hi Daytona.
Believe me, fear of the unknown is definately the worst. I went to the gyno every year, had regular paps and all and nothing ever came out wrong... but his year, in april, i had a hyst and found out that i had ovarian cancer. Big shock!! and am now on chemo...two more treatments to go!! Anyway, it is time to start thinking of and taking care of yourself.. As women we always make excuses for things and put everyone else ahead of our need. Please make sure that you go to an oncologist gynocologist. As my internist told me,,, any surgeon can do surgery but only an oncologist gynocologist knows exactly what to look for and get the job done right the first time!!!
Good luck to you.
