why do you have to remove a cyst?

I had a hyst on 8-21-00 and I have had problems with my ovaries having cyst on them since then, My Dr just called and said I need a 4 cent cyst removed that I have had since march, I have no pain and it is not bothering me at this time.
Why do you remove them if they are not bothering you??
I have to wait until MOnday to talk to my Dr. and I hate the wait.
Has anyone had this problem??

Hi Sweetie

Have you had others that they didn't remove? Maybe that one is bigger than the rest and could cause problems later or might be blocking something. I had my ovaries removed and had cyst on the out side of my left and one on the inside of the right one. So I can't help with having the same problem because mine did give me problems each month when I ovulated I would have a whole lot of pain. Hope you will get some answers from the DR. God Bless.

why do you have to remove a cyst?

Hi !

Sorry you are having to deal with this -
I dont know much about the subject but I am wondering if maybe they suggest removal after it gets to a certain size because of the risk of rupture ? I know someone who had a cyst rupture & it was not something she wants to endure ever again.
Maybe you could give your dr. a call & ask him ?
I hope everything works out well for you- let us know how you're doing

why do you have to remove a cyst?

If the cyst continues to grow it can rupture. I think that 4 cm is a fairly large cyst. When I had my first ovary removed the cyst was 4 cm and the doctor said that was about the size of a golf ball, by the time I had it removed it had grown to the size of a plum. Also, if you had an ultrasound they can usually measure how much fluid is in the cyst, so they may have seen alot of fluid in there too.

Best wishes to you, I'm sorry you have to have another surgery.

why do you have to remove a cyst?

Well I finally made it to my dr appt. I am going in for a laporscopic surgery, she cant tell from the ultrasound what it is on my right ovary, it could be scar tissue or a cyst or something else, she will probbly have to remove both of my ovaries, great!!! After all the scare about hrts lately I am not looking forward to that. So I guess the answer to my question was, you cant be for sure what you are seeing on an ultra sound and so you need to make sure and take it out. My dR said she will know what it is the minute she sees it so at least I wont have to wait on a pathology report. thanks for listening, you ladies have always been there when I neede someone to talk to and my family and friends are tired of hearing about it. thanks blessed
