Weight loss/gain.

Has anyone else found their weight fluctuating like a yoyo since surgery? I had lost 21 lbs prior to surgery, and am still following the same haelthy eating plan, but my weight is going up and down betwee, 6lbs on, 6lbs off, almost on a daily basis!! It is frustrating, cos I am a comfort eater, and am now struggling to stick to the straight & narrow! The gains seem to be linked to swelly belly, so is there weight in sb, or is it just gas? Thoughts appreciated!!

hi debs! You are not alone.Right after I had surgery(in the hospital) I gained 6 lbs. Thought the scales were wrong so when I got home I weighed again and unfortunately they were right. But within a week I was able to wear my old clothes, and by 1 1/2 weeks I lost 10 lbs, but that was including the 6 I'd gained. By 3 weeks I'd lost 2 more and it stayed that weight until the 5 week mark when 1 morn I woke up and had gained 6 lbs. ....next a.m, it was back to norm...2 days later...bavck up 5 lbs and it fluctuates like that everday by2-8 lbs.It's very discouraging especially since I've been eating healthier and excercising. But I think the majority of it is fluid b/c the biggest gain always comes the morning after I've eaten something salty like pretzels...and my measurements never change with the flunctuation even though the clothes feel more snug.Who knows? Just one of the wonderful(NOT) things that come from being a woman.

Same thing here. One day my stomach is flat. Two days later, especially since I've returned to work and am doing the commute thing, my stomach is sticking out again like I've been munching on burgers all day.

It is very frustrating based on the fact that I am eating right (better than I've ever eaten in my life) and exercising regularly. I've even added strength training to my routine yet the tummy comes and goes, and my weight goes up and down. and the clothes that fit me this morning are 2 sizes too tight by the time I get home from work.

I'm counting my blessings though. I feel so much better since my surgery. No more pain. Now it's time to adjust to the post-op world. I guess I just have to give my body a chance to balance itself out. I'll just keep eating well, exercising, getting plenty of rest and wait patiently for my body to adjust.

I had fluid gain, but not from swelly belly. Both legs and arms swelled up and I gained 10 pounds in 5 days. Then, miraculously I lost 13 pounds in 2 days and haven't had it go up since then. Amen!
