Is the only treatment needed for endometrial cancers a hysterectomy. I've seen hsyterectomy and radiation but wondered if there are other options or possible surprises in store. Thanks Shell

Hi Shell!

I've seen quite a few ladies come through here who've had Endometrial cancer who've had hysterectomies. I myself had Ovarian so am not much help personally but there are some very good cancer sites listed on this thread that might be able to give you some more information.

You might also consult with a Gyn Oncologist regarding this if you haven't already. Gyn cancers are their specialty so they would be able to give you more insight on what options are out there.

Hope this helps.

HI,
I HAD ENDOMETRIAL CANCER AND ALL I NEEDED WAS A HYST. MINE WAS STAGE 1 ONLY, VERY EARLY.
SOME LADIES HAVE RADIATION DEPENDING ON THE STAGE AND GRADE.
SOMEONE SHOULD BE ALONG SOON TO EXPLAIN THAT TO YOU.
I CAN TELL YOU THAT THIS IS A SLOW GROWING CANCER AND IT IS ALL CONTAINED FOR A VERY LONG TIME.
GOOD LUCK,
LET US KNOW HOW THINGS WORK OUT FOR YOU.

I have endometrial CA (early stage) and they are treating me with hormones (norethindrone - a type of progesterone). They will follow me closely (biopsies every 3 months) and hopefully, after 9-12 months it will be curative. I believe this may only be offered as an option to women under 40 (it has been studied in this population with "good" results). A complete hysterectomy remains an option if the hormones are not curative.
