I just realized that I haven't even asked how much my surgery will cost, I am having a TAH/BSO, can anyone give me a ball park figure on this?

costs of surgery

Hi Lisa,

I've seen different threads in the past about the costs of surgery, and from what I remember, it varies quite a bit, depending on the Usual and Customary Rate (UCR) for the area where you live, and the contracts that the various providers have with the insurance companies. Do you have insurance? Does your plan call for a deductible and then a co-pay?

Your doctor's office should be able to tell you his normal fee, and the hospital should be able to give you an estimate, but don't forget that you might also be billed by the anesthesiologist.

One thing that I would suggest, if you do not have insurance, is to request that the providers reduce their bills to the UCR amount. (That can make a big difference!!)

my bills thus far

Hi, Sweetie,

I can only tell you what my costs are so far and I do know that it varies with each surgery, doctor, and castle.

The Doc's bill is $1,900.
Sonogram in office bill: $220
Castle bill:$3,000

I had surgery in May and a few bills are slowly coming in just arrived from the Pain Managers (those that provided morphine, which i only took once)

My insurance is covering most of it, but it does appear I will be left with around $600 to pay out of pocket.

costs of surgery

My insurance paid 100% so I haven't gotten any bills. I only had to pay for the tummy tuck and extra OR and Anesth. And that was a hefty chunk alone!!!!!

costs of surgery

My surgery was covered %100 by my insurance thank goodness!
The statements have shown up for what they paid.....
Hospital and surgery was $25,000...only $2,200 of that was the doctors fee....
Then there were the two doctors appts that followed....$170 for those I had a co-pay of $20 each time....
So close to $26,000 for me after all was said and done (Rx included)
I still haven't gotten a statement for the "A" man or pathology so that may have been included in my hospital bill!

I didn't have medical insurance at all so...

For the abdominal hyst and bladder suspension, he charges around 2500 dollars, but he only charged me 1500 if I paid before the surgery. Later we discovered I needed a rectocele repair and this is a whole different operating procedure. The price of that was 1000 and he charged me 500. So in total, before my hyst, I took him 2000 dollars.

My hospital bill is around 10,000... they're working with me though because it seems I may qualify for financial assistance through the hospital. I got lucky there.
