Pain in lower abdomen area

i am experiencing some mild throbbing pain in the lower part of my abdomen (underneath my navel area)...like mild cramping during my menstrual cycle.

I am 21 days post-op, TVH. I shouldn't have anything to throb....right? I did keep my ovaries and tubes, though.

Anyone else experienced this pain, if so, let me know what the DR said.

thanks ,jacque

Pain in lower abdomen area

Hi Jacque,
The throbbing may be nothing to worry about. Have you may be been over doing it a bit? Swelling will cause some throbbing. Like a bump on the head.

I know I had some throbbing once in awhile. I have had several abdominal surgeries. I am sure it will pass. Part of healing. You may want to call your doctor. It never hurts to call, we certainly pay them enough.

Get alot rest, you are still in the early stages of healing, it does take time.

Pain in lower abdomen area

Am I the only one experiencing this type of pain after 21 days - post op? If i no longer have a uterus or cervix, why should i experience these throbbing like symptoms....they feel just like menstrual cramps.

Thanks Jacque

Pain in lower abdomen area

I am having the cramping feeling too- not quite pain but close and in the same area. I attribute it to the fact that there are now tons of internal stitches sealing the vaginal cuff and sutures tacking everything up where the ligaments and the uterus and cervix that are no longer there used to be.

We have internal healing going on there, and at 21 days, you are ahead of me but I recall from numerous posts that this is when the internal stitches start dissolving so these newly generated /healed tissues are then subject to stress that the stitches handled. It would stand to reason this may cause some soreness, maybe cramps. Some sisters have said they called at that time to get a refill on pain meds when they had been off them for a while before that, so it sounds normal. We just have to remember to keep taking it easy and not to be tempted to overdo because we start feeling better.

I'm hoping when/if that happens with me that my doc is willing to write another prescription if I need it. But as always, check with your own to be on the safe side. Hope you feel better soon and keep me posted how you are doing.

Pain in lower abdomen area

After I had my surgery I was told that if I experienced any new pain I should call my doctor. You may want to call your doctor and tell them about the pain you are having - they can decide if they need to see you or not. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

I have mild cramping too

Hi! I am recovering from a LAVH, and I have also been wondering about some pain I've been having. It seems to get worse when I stand a lot or try to run errands like I used to. I was wondering if I am the only one still not feeling real good at 3 weeks, and I'm glad to know I'm not alone out there. Not that I would wish this on anyone! The pain isn't too bad, but I still get tired real easily and don't feel recovered. I feel like a real wimp since I know some people are returning to work after 3 weeks! Are there any others experiencing the same things at 3 weeks? I also feel some pain when driving (putting on the brake) and when I stand up I feel like everything is falling downward in that lower area. Am I crazy or what? Thanks for listening.

Pain in lower abdomen area

Hi Ladies,

First, s to you all! I'm sorry you're not feeling that you're doing well!

If you're not overdoing it you really should call your doctor. Don't think that at 3 weeks you should be back to your old self --- it can take 6-12 months to really heal from surgery!

And please do NOT compare yourselves to others. Some are going back at 3 weeks? So what? YOUR health is what's important in the long run. We're all different ---- some of us take longer to heal than others.

More s and I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the replies. The pain stopped but i just don't understand why would any experience cramping (like menstrual cramps) when cervix and uterus are removed.

Thanks again,

Jacque

Pain on Right Side

I have not had cramping but what I do have is REAL bad pain to the right of my incesion. I can not walk much at ALL and when I do it feels like a knife is stabbing me in that area, it is about a grapefruit size area of pain. I am really miserable. I went to a NEW Dr and he said that maybe the old Dr cut into something that he should not have. That maybe I should to to physical therapy. Which again baffles me because if I am in this much pain why would excersize help? I just wish I heard this is happening to someone other than me. It has been a month since my TAH. When I walk I have to hold that side strongly or the pain is too bad to walk. Anyone?

Me too!

Hi sisters,

I had a LAVH on 7/9/02 and I was feeling really good at the beginning of my third week. In fact, I even sent a post this past Tuesday about how well I felt!

Now, I must be starting to hit the "three-week wall" I've heard about. This morning, I started feeling a mild throbbing (kind of a "buzzing") feeling in the area of my left incision and it is a little sore there. I'm getting a little more spotting than before (still very light, but it was almost gone a couple of days ago). It sure sounds like this might be the "dissolving sutures" that I've read about.

I'm also getting mild pains that seem to come and go in different areas (leg, groin, chest). I keep worrying about blood clots, but from what I've read on the list, the pain with blood clots is pretty severe (and have redness and swelling) and I haven't heard anything about them coming on and then totally disappearing.

I think we three-weekers definitely have to continue to take it easy--especially during the suture-dissolving phase of our recovery.
