Surgery scheduled for pelvic organ prolapse, need advice.

Hello everyone,
I had a TVH in 2001 and am now scheduled for cyctocel, rectocele and vaginal vault repair on March 14th. I finally found a GYN that will do the surgery with only biologic mesh, which is what I was looking for and he does the surgery along with a Urologist that he has been working with for 20 plus years so I believe I'll be in good hands but I am scared to death of all the comments I've read about the post op pain and bathroom issues!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cmangus,

It is a big surgery and I am sure you are scared of the recovery process. Being prepared is key. Have ice packs on hand for your perineum. I used sanitary pads that I wet and froze. You can also use bags of peas. Have gentle wipes to use on your tender tissues after having a BM. Be sure to take stool softeners for several weeks post op. My doctor had me take them twice per day. Drink plenty of water. Be very mindful of your lifting restrictions and no squatting! If you have cats find someone to clean the cat box. I found weeks 2/3 to be the hardest. The sutures were coming through in tender places by then. So get a soft pillow to sit on (NOT a donut).

Hang in there. You are going to be fine!
