How Did You Choose Your User Name?

Many years ago, bored with life here in the good old UK, I decided to try living in New York for a while. Seven years later I arrived back here with the name Duckie. One of the musicians, Sam, who worked at the company where I was working, had just come back from London. He had fallen in love with the cockney sayings, in particular, cor luv a duck. He christened me his little duck, which eventually became Duckie, I added 16 as that is my favourite number, and voila, here I am, duckie16.

The first part of my name "Ciocia" (pronounced Chuh, Chuh) is Polish for "Aunt." My niece and nephews call me Ciocia Judy!

All of the other names I use (& would like to use) were taken. I grew up with 6 older brothers, so between that & the nature of my maiden name (Troudt) I had a huge store of nicknames, affectionate & not-so, from my childhood. I was most often Sis, but there's not a lot of appeal in that one. Next most often, I was Gravel Gertie. Where and why they came up with that one, I have no idea, but it never fails to make me smile when I hear or type it. Haven't ever used it online before, and it wasn't taken - so there ya go!!!

How Did You Choose Your User Name?

Cat has always been my nickname (my step kids call me mommy cat) and when I decided to sell my craft projects, my daughter found a stamp at Hobby Lobby that said Shabby Cat with paw prints. Shabby Cat seemed to fit well with the things I am making (ie Shabby Chic).

My daughter has taken further and made up the adventures of Shabby Cat and her side kick Shrankey (Emma is my "mini me" so Shrankey is a lot like her) and we are writing wonderful stories to go with the things we are making together to sell. The cats go on on Journeys to the beach to see the sunset, the forest, etc. and bring the colors back and incorporate them into the shawls and scarves that we make.

I will have lots of time to crochet and knit while recovering!!! (guess what my family is getting for the Holidays!) I have begun stocking up on yarn and trying NOT to use it before going to the castle in December.

where'd i get my name?

It's kind of bittersweet, but I named myself youghriver after the Youghiogheny River. I was camping at Ohiopyle here in Pennsylvania when all my bleeding, pain started, ending in a total abdominal hysterectomy. I was having such a great time camping, hiking, being by myself amidst the splendor of the Pennsylvania woods. I'm gonna go back next year, but this time, I won't have to worry about my period starting halfway through!!
