Upcoming hysterectomy: Shower chair/ raised toilet seat

Would it be beneficial to have a shower stool or a raised toilet seat with handles for recovery? There is a lending closet here where I can borrow them for free. Will I need these?

Re: Shower chair/raised toilet seat

Hi tpez -

You probably will not need a raised toilet seat with handles, but you may want a shower chair for stability. I used one in the hospital (I was there for 3 1/2 days), and it was beneficial the first couple of days. After that I was okay, however. DH helped me get in and out of the shower at home, but I was able to manage otherwise. We have one of the combination tub/shower so it was a pretty big step over the side of the tub.

Re: Shower chair/raised toilet seat

you shouldn't need these things. you will want to move around after surgery and get back to normal rather quickly.

Re: Shower chair/raised toilet seat

Thank you. I'll plan to do without. If I find I need one someone can go get it for me. Hopefully all goes well and I'll be just fine.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy: Shower chair/ raised toilet seat

I agree that it is unlikely that you will need these things. Once I got the hang of getting up and down without using my abs, I was able to do it very easily. If you wanted to shave your legs or something you might want the shower chair as you might not want to bend over that far right away, but otherwise you probably wouldn't need it.

Thank you! I haven't shaved my legs in years. Laser hair removal is the BOMB!
