Energy Drink

Hi Ladies -

I'm a new princess and my mother has just had her 2nd round of chemo for ovarian cancer (3C). Mom still doesn't have the energy to spend a lot of time at the computer so I'm her secretary for now.

She just doesn't have any energy. She had a blood test and that was normal. So she's wondering if anyone knows of an energy/sports drink (without a lot of calories) that might help her.

Thanks so much ,
Vicki

Ahhh you are such a good daughter Vicki!!! Hugs to you and your mom!!

The only thing I can think of is something the chemo nurses suggested for me when my energy was zapped, and my appetite wasn't good and thats the boost and ensure protein drinks. They come in a variety of flavours but I couldn't tolerate them personally. I am sure the chemo which does a number on our taste buds had something to do with that, but they all tasted like chaulk to me.

My favorite juice both before, during and since chemo has been the V8 veggie drink, which has lots of good vitamins in it.

Chemo really does zap your energy, so tell your mom not to be too hard on herself, and rest all she needs too. I hope your mom will come visit us here when she is able to. This site is amazing for picking up our spirits and sharing information.
I wish her the very best with her treatments, and I'm sending more hugs to you both!! 's

Energy Drink

Vicki,

My mom had her ovca hyst just about a year ago, and I had mine in January! I think the lack of energy is pretty much par for the course with chemo, and if her blood counts are OK, the best thing to do is rest and rest some more - get her outside and on slow easy short outings. But unless lack of appetite and weight loss is a problem, energy drinks aren't likely to do much good.

Your mom is lucky to have such a kind DD

Hi Vicki..You are a wonderful daughter to be doing this for your mom.
I too am on chemo for ovarian cancer. Last treatment is next thrusday....YIPPEE.....
I am taking taxol and carboplatim... Is your mom on those also? The day i have the treatment i am fine... the day after i am fine also but day 2 and 3 after the treatment i am very tired and achy. However, right after that i am good to go again...Are you sure that it is the chemo that is making her tired and not something else? Especially since you say that her blood counts are good.
This may sound crazy but in that yucky period of time i have cravings for tomato juice. do not know why but i drink lots of it then.
Keep us informed as to how things work out
