Okay... now he's put me on Aygestin...

I asked for presciption progesterone - since he wasn't "big on" natural OTC progesterone - and he prescribed me Aygestin. They are 5 mg tablets and I'm supposed to take one every other day.

Does this sound right? From what I've read here, most women are prescribed this for heavy periods and endo. I'm on estratest HS and wanted to try progesterone to help balance out the estrogen - I HOPE he gave me the right stuff!

Hi Bekki I wish I could say yes, but Aygestin is a progestin, like Provera; not progesterone . Here's a link to a description:

JMHO, but if it were me, I'd hang onto the prescription and get a jar of OTC cream (like Angel Care or FemGest) to try. Unfortunately a lot of DRs will say "no uterus, no progesterone" and if we persist, they'll throw up their hands and prescribe what they're used to, usually a progestin.

Hopefully someone else will come along and share their thoughts too.

I second that...hold out for the real thing. Perhaps try finding a compounding pharmacist http://www.iacprx.org/ A compounding pharmacist can help you to discuss this with your doctor or if need be he can recommend someone who is already educated about hormones.
Incidentally I had a friend who used Aygestin and she had a horrible time with side effects.
Best wishes to you

Ditto!

Hi Bekki

Yes, I agree - give the OTC progesterone a try. I have noticed a BIG difference in water retention (slim to none now) since I began using it a few weeks ago. While there have been some sisters who have not had any success with it, there are many others who have.

It's worth a shot! Happy healing!
