Post op tips that helped me

This site has been so helpful to me pre op that I wanted to give a few tips to help others. I had a lavh on May 15th with my tubes, cervix and uterus removed and ovaries left. I was shocked that I had adenomyosis and my uterus was a spongy mess, according to my doc. It explained all my pain for so long. My doc took pics pre and post having it all removed. I recommend getting doc to take pics.

I just wanted to share a few tips that have helped me. I'm two weeks post op, but I spent 5 days in the hospital for low red blood count and breathing issues.

I found disposable depend pad panties very comfortable and easy. Especially when you don't have as much control of your bladder. Also buying those hospital pads that you can change out daily in your own bed once home. I soaked my bed from night sweats and no energy or able to change sheets. So throw away pad and replace with fresh. Woola!
Sleeping propped up at slight angle helped for breathing and getting out of bed.
Asking for a anti nausea patch behind ear right before you go into surgery. I never had the nausea I usually do after surgery. I had pain meds given to me in pre op.
Using the breathing machine every hour as soon as you can post op to expand lungs.
Now lets talk meds- I had 7 diff meds sent home with. So what I did is program my phone every time I took a med and put on calendar in my phone with time and type.
I put a metal stool in shower with a handheld showerhead so I could bathe myself. Once a week is all I have in me right now.
Take meds on time whether in pain or not the first two weeks cause you want to stay on top of it.
I have just walked to end of my long driveway and back today and find that progress.
Be kind to yourself. Allow yourself to grieve the process and heal. Do not expect others that have not been through it to understand. They wont.
I have no regrets! I will run again pain free one day. Having a uterus does not define us as a woman! Loving and living a full life free of pain and enjoying it with your family and friends is priceless. Hugs to all!
