Hospital Stay

Hi all, I am new to this so please be patient while I try and figure out what questions I need to ask!! I am scheduled for a LAVH on 10.29.02. I have 2 questions: 1. how long will I be in the hospital and 2. do I have a say in how long I stay? I am sure I will have more to ask, but right now this is my biggest concern.

Hi sunshine! you're in luck... we've done a poll on this site about how many nights ladies have spent in the hospital, and here's a link to the results:

I stayed there two nights, which is about average. Usually your insurance company has the first say on how long you can stay, and then your DR can request a longer stay at the time of your hospitalization if he/she decides it's warranted. My insurance company specified 2 nights right off the bat so it was fine, but some sisters have said their insurance companies specified it as outpatient surgery which led to some scary thoughts until their DR got them to OK additional time. But don't worry, your DR won't let you go home if you're not ready.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to this great site! Linda is so right. The length of your stay is between your doctor and your insurance co. The insurance company sets their standard and the doctor will ask for more time if necessary.

Read all over the site, it is so interesting and informative. You will get to know alot of wonderful caring women here. Use the purple calendar button to see who else will share your surgery date and you can follow along with them clear through surgery and recovery to compare notes, share feelings, vent and then finally celebrate!!
