TAH on Sept. 20. 2002

I am new to the list and had a TAH on Sept. 20th due to endometriosis and pelvic congestion syndrome. The surgery has been fine, it all went better than I anticipated.

Monday was the first time I saw my incision and have noticied that I have been thinking a lot about what it means to be a woman without my organs!? I am 30 and have no children. My belly is still really swollen and I sadly feel like this is the closest feeling that I will ever have to pregnancy. I have been contemplating a lot about what it means to be a woman... I used to always joke about having the "ovaries" to do bold things...

I have seriously been though hell and back this year. I quit my job due to my deteriorating health in May. My boyfriend of 2 1/2 years left me in late May. Mom came to take care of me in June. Got jerked around by several more doctors who refused to do the hysterectomy. Diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and hypothyroidsim in June. Broke in August. Found out ex-boyfriend left me for a "healthier" model in September and kept my doggie (she was like my daughter). Finally, hysterectomy on Sept 20th! It couldn't come soon enough. I already feel better and hope to go back to work soon.

Can't wait to rebuild my life....

I'm sorry you've had such a rough time of things. But it's encouraging to hear that you are looking forward to getting your life back on the track where you want it to be.

Remember the rules during your recovery to help you get started...lots of rest and fluids, and exercise in the form of frequent short walks.

Best wishes and more s

Hi Shelly I just wanted to echo Tina's "Welcome"... also if you need some support dealing with the emotional part of this surgery, as many of us do at one time or another, you might want to visit the "Aching Hearts" forum on this site. The wonderful ladies there are so caring and kind, and it really helps to talk with others who've walked in shoes like yours.

I'm so sorry you've had such a hard time this past year. I'm also very encouraged to hear you looking forward to rebuilding your life. You're still young and healthy and have a lot to offer to the world. Somewhere out there there is a guy who will appreciate you for the special woman you are. In the meantime, you are among friends here... this is a great place to get s and support as you recover from the surgery, both physically and emotionally.

If you need any support in terms of information about HRT, please visit the Hormone Jungle forum here... there are lots of us there sharing information about what works and doesn't work for us. If you can't take HRT, then we have a forum called the No-Hormone Desert Oasis where ladies not on HRT share information about non-hormone supplements that can help with their menopausal symptoms.

Good luck with your recovery... please remember to get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids and take frequent short walks around the house. Congratulations on starting your new life!
