Update on my sister

We got the results back from my sisters ctscan and it showed that the 4 chemo treatments she had of carbo/taxol worked very well on the ovarian cancer, and had shrunk the lymphnodes (thus explaining the substantial dropping of the CA levels. Her drs. were very encouraged by this. The problem is the existing tumor (on the cervix) initially responded to the chemo, but then stopped, and it started growing. We also learned from the ct scan that it is not any larger now than it was after her surgery, which was encouraging, so to speak. There is questions surfacing as to whether there is another cell involved, and quite frankly we are hoping there is, because the type of cancer she has does not usually respond well to radiation... She starts her radiation on Monday, daily, for 5.5 weeks, and they are directing it strictly on the tumor, now that they know they do not have to radiate the lymphnode. The goal here is to shrink it enough so they can operate. Today we are optimistic and hopeful that this will work. They are going to be managing her cancer(s)? on as as needed basis..... did that make sense? The squeaky wheel getting the grease sort of thing.

I wanted to share this with you, as I know it was very discerning to some of you when I said the chemo stopped working even though her ca levels had dropped... Her situation is very unusual and unique, not typical, so I'm sorry if I caused you any unnecessary concern. I just wish none of us had to deal with cancer!

Thanks for being here!

Donna--Good to Hear From You!

I'm happy that the chemo DID work--now let's hope that the radiation (and surgery) do their jobs. It is better news than before. A special and er for both you and your sister.

Update on my sister

s Donna

Well things certainly sound better than they did a week ago. Radiation to one specific spot sure beats trying to target lymph nodes as well. Hopefully the tumor will shrink so that an effective surgery can happen. Will they continue the taxol and carbo in the meantime or stop during radiation?
How are your sister's spirits?
Please give a hug from all of us. Keep in touch.

Hi Donna,
So glad to hear that your sisters condition is not quite as bad as first feared, and wonderful to hear the chemo did work for her.
Best of luck to her with the radiation treatments next week!!
Keeping you both in my prayers as she undergoes this next course of treatment!!
Lots of hugs coming to you both,
Maria
