I have severe endo and I have no other choice.I gotta get rid of the pain. I want these next few days to go smoothly, and I cant quit stressing,worrying...What can I do ? Im working the day before my surgery but the girls at work just dont understand>This is not gonna be a vacation for me to have surgery...

Getting Ready

Hey Stacy,

Now you should pamper yourself a bit the day before surgery. Everything is done, now focus on you. Think all those positive thoughts.....NO MORE PAIN You will have more energy, no more periods, all that good stuff. I went to the local mall , went to the fancy department store, and bought myself some yummy lounging pj's......and a new perfume. I told myself when I was feeling better, like a normal person again, those things would be waiting for me. A massage, getting your nails or feet one might be a good way to pamper yourself too. It will calm you, and make you feel oh, so good!

Good luck to you, see you on the other side!

pampering

Hi Stacy,
I agree pamper yourself for a while. Just a few days before my surgery my DH sent me to get a relaxation massage. Wow! what a treat. I told him I wasn't sure I should have driven myself home, I was so relaxed. The person doing the massage said in Sweden Drs. insist all patients have a massage pre surgery. It was great!!!
I can't believe I'm saying this, but waiting is really the worst. I had a TAH/BSO, with only one ovary found. And a vertical insicion. I was 3 yrs. post menopausel and the pain right afterwards was reminisent of cramps. I hardly felt like I needed the morphine, but I used it for at least 24hrs. It did make me sleep a lot. Then a nurse suggested toradal. She said it would help with swelling. I have continued to take the extra strength motrin at home for the same reason.

gee wiz Stacy...

I don't know how you can handle WORKING the day before your surgery... are you doing that because you WANT to or because you HAVE to? I'm thinking that if you can possibly manage it, get that day off. I just had laparoscopy and hysterascope (sp?) about 3 weeks ago, I will be scheduling a TAH-BSO sometime soon. I worked the day before my lap, and that was a lesson to me. I was so stressed all that day, had trouble focusing and was near tears at any given moment. I already told the gyney that there aint no way in heck I'm working the day before my "big" surgery.

Anyway, do what you have to do, or want to do, of course. Just take care... try to have a calm, quiet moment or two to yourself... and maybe a good cry or two in the shower also. Hang in there, you're on the home stretch.

got my house ready but not myself.

Hi,

I did not work the day before my laparoscopy and went into surgery so relaxed...the day before my hysterectomy I did work and I was so much more distracted and worried. I suggest that you try to cancel working the day before your surgery so you can focus on yourself. Taking care of your home will make your recovery so much easier... I did not do that very well and now I am paying the price. Dinner is not easy to prepare when you are struggling with intestinal gas and bloating.

Best of luck and God bless,

Patti

getting ready

I worked a half day before my surgery and would've worked all day had my parents not been coming in from out of town. I wanted to spend some pre op time with them! I agree with the other ladies, pamper yourself a little ahead of time! I went out and bought 2 sets of PJ's and got my nails done and bought plenty of books to read. A couple of tips - make sure the area you'll be spending a lot of time resting is really comfy. And extra PJ's are great. I spend a lot of time in mine! It helps me (and my daughter) remember that I'm recovering from major surgery and to not overdo it. Plus they're cute! A basket is great for putting things in, since you shouldn't be lifting much. It's handy for the remote control, cordless phone, novel, etc.

Feeling better is coming up soon!
