Meds To Avoid Pre-0p?

I have read a few posts containing advice to avoid NSAIDs prior to surgery. I live on Naproxen Sodium.

I had a bad reaction to hydrocodone (generic name) when I broke my wrist (bad, bad horse) a couple of years ago and I looked up all the meds that have hydrocodone and most of the stuff I have heard of is not available to me. UGH!!!!

Anyone with suggestions on a drug that will allow you to function pre-op other than NSAIDs or hydrocodone? By function I mean have the pain under control and still be able to drive....

Meds To Avoid Pre-0p?

Hi Michele,

You are right that there are certain drugs you need to avoid in the days and weeks leading up to your surgery. They can adversely affect the clotting capabilities of your blood.

The best thing to do is to talk to your doctor about what he wants you to take - or not take! Also, if you take herbs, be aware of the thread here on Pre Op about which herbs to avoid prior to surgery.

Best wishes,

Meds To Avoid Pre-0p?

I had a similar problem before a surgery that I had in June (not hyst). There are pain meds available with a prescription that are OK before an operation. Ask your Dr. (family Dr. would know also).

Good Luck!
