3 weeks and 2 days post hysterectomy: intimacy - how long did you wait, and did you have any issues?

Overall I'm feeling good. I have been able to walk a fair distance and I am doing light housework. Earlier in the week, I sure would not have thought I'd feel this good today. I tired out pretty quickly, but I rest. When I stand too long I feel increasing pressure to pain in the pelvic area. So, I take breaks. I've seen people posting about sex, and I am thinking about what it will be like, but at the same time I am not ready yet. Im afraid of any stimulation at all. How long did you call wait, and did you have any issues? I think i can see where it woikd be easy to think that you are more healed than you are at the point that I am now... But I have a good day, then a down day, so I am leery.

I waited until well after my doctor gave that clearance. I got clearance around 6 weeks and waited until at least 12 weeks after my surgery. My doctor's orders were nothing in the vagina, complete pelvic rest.

It's important to follow your doctor's orders and not do anything that could set back your recovery. That's true for housework, exercise, driving, sex, etc. Only your doctor knows how well your internal healing is coming along so rely on your doctor's expertise and guidance. From your post it sounds like you know you aren't ready yet. Give yourself time to heal properly and your doctor will let you know when it's okay to start resuming sex and your other activities.

Best wishes as you continue to heal!

Hello
I was cleared at 6 weeks, we waited until the next week and just took it really really slow. My fibroids caused so much pain, it was a relief to be pain free.
In the meantime read Libido Surge after Hysterectomy

I was cleared at 7 weeks and we took it very slow. In the beginning we had to be very careful with the angle and depth. I am now 4 months postop and it is getting better.

wow sounds far too early to me hon - Also don't try to do too much, especially as you are still feeling pain, I know it's difficult but there is a lot of healing to do inside of you and it doesn't happen quickly!

I agree with the post above linking to articles on this site about resuming intimacy. I have been feeling passionate from about 1 week and have to keep putting it out of my mind!! I keep seeing my partner looking so handsome and just have to read a book!!!
