Post Op bleeding

I had a vaginal hyst on May 15th 2002. I was suffering from uterine prolapse, able to keep both ovaries. According to my Dr, my surgery went well and was fairly text book.

The only trouble I experienced was the morning after. I had the vaginal packing and catheter until the morning of the 16th. The nurse came in and was removing the cather tubing after the packing was removed...something slipped while she was removing it and within about 5 minutes, I was hemorraging. My bed was completely soaked with blood. I got up to go to the rest room and started passing huge blood clots. Some the size of a small dinner plate. They took me back down to a procedure room to find what was causing the bleeding. In order to better see, the Dr put the cather tube back in. Once he did, the bleeding stopped for the most part. After that episode, I was placed on 2 weeks bed rest post op.

Now, 5 months later, I am having some spotting and sharp pains running down the center of my lower belly. At times, my tummy looks bloated and swollen. I signed in today to read through and see if there were some postings with anyone that has had bleeding this long after surgery. It is not heavy bleeding by any means, but it does scare me just the same.

((((Alison)))) I think you should call your doctor if you haven't already. It may not be anything to worry about, but let the dr. decide. It's scary when you see blood that isn't supposed to be there, and you're far enough post op that it should be looked into.

Please let us know if you call the dr. and what he tells you.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this - & that must of been such an awful experience you had at the castle
Some women have what they call "mini periods" if they kept they're ovaries & cervix. I dont know a lot about it since I didnt keep my ovaries but some of the others do. Still - it would be wise to consult your dr. as soon as possible. I will be thinking of you - let us know what your dr. says & take care.
