Well...I had the sono...

And it shows what they "think is a cyst". Can't tell if the ovary is enlarged itself or if it's the "cyst" making it look that way. They want me to go on the pill to see if it will shrink...if not, then they will be doing more testing...I'm not so sure I should wait. What do you think? Thanks again...Love, Tickles

Cathy,
I'm a big advocate of NOT waiting. What is a person waiting for? A biopsy tells you if it's cancer or not - how will that change in 6 months? I know everyone is different and every cancer is different, but I'd rather know.

I went to two DRs before being diagnosed and it was like
to get them to test further. Both of them were really surprised that it was cancer - didn't look like, didn't feel like . . . . and I didn't fit the profile.

However, doing a uterine biopsy is easy. I'm not sure what's needed to do an ovarian biopsy. I'm sure one of the other ladies will be here to give some advice.

Hang in there, insist on good proactive health care and keep us posted.
s,
Laura

Hi Tickles..
I say why wait??? I know that a wait and see situation may make you feel better but what if it is not ok.. then you waited for nothing when something could have been done more quickly. Are you seeing an oncologist gyno?? they are the best!!

s Tickles

Ovarian cysts are not uncommon. No need to panic. Did they give you anymore info about your cyst? The size, whether it appears to be a simple, fluid filled cyst, versus a large complex cyst with densitites.
I'll bet since they advised waiting and birth control pills, the doc is pretty certain that it is a simple cyst. And his advice for this is perfectly legitimate.
If the words complex or dense were used, you may want to have a ca 125 level checked. Not an accurate screening tool, but just a puzzle piece.
Even if it is suspected to be a simple cyst, make sure they follow you up with an ultrasound in a month or two.
Best wishes to you. Keep in touch.

The following post was made by Tickles:

Think you are all so right

No, I'm not seeing a gyn/onc. And get this...my current gyn said, they don't want to do a CA 125 because if it's high (possibly due to endo/ a regular cyst they say it is ) that they would have to do surgery to check... and I believe they are nervous due to the fact that this would make 4 in 10-11 months! But they inherited me from my gyn who suddenly moved to Maine at eh end of July. So I'm not even sure what I'm dealing with as far as expertise to begin with. I'm going to take your advice...we have a good friend(DH and I) who heads up the cancer center for men at the hospital where I had all my surgeries and she knows all the Docs. plus the head of gyn. I'm calling her tommorow for a reference. Thank you...you helped me decide nor more if I can help it! I WILL let you all know.. thank you for caring! Love to you all, Tickles

Hi Tickles!

I'm glad you're going for a consult with another physician. Even if they go the same route, its worth it for peace of mind alone.

I hope that this does turn out to be a cyst and that they'll be able to take things from there.

Keep us posted.
