Hernia Repair

As I've written before, had a TAH last Dec. and have not fared well. Had an abcess at the wound at that time, and never healed properly. I just had a hernia repair surgery 3 wks ago as a result of that abcess..the .hernia was a direct result therefrom. My question is to those of you who had abdomincal hysterectomies....did you have a drain above your incision post-surgically to drain excess fluid from the surgery site?

I'm sorry that you are still having problems. I dont have any experience with hernia's & I had a TVH. Some of the others should be along soon with some input.
Heres a to the top for ya !

Hi there! Hope you are taking it easy, and are feeling better now!

Just to answer your question, I didn't have a drain after my TAH. I was surprised when I woke up, b/c from what I'd read, I thought I would have one!

Good luck to you!

I had an Abdominal hyst. I did not have a drain or tube but the surgeon did leave a small opening under my belly at the pubic bone line where it could drain out on its own. She also checked it regularly to make sure it was draining.

Hi Ritz!!

I had the drain your talking about...Does yours have a little plastic bulb at the end? Mine did... It felt funny while walking around. I had mine for 4 days.

I also had an abscess and Now have a hernia I'm dealing with so can relate well to what you have been thru.. The drain is to help pull out any free forming fluid in order not to build up another abscess. They had to put the drain in me with my last surgery in April as the abscesses just wouldn't go away on thier own.

Hope this last surgery fixes things for you sweetie!!!

Hernia Repair

ritz,

How did you hernia repair surgery go. I am going to have to have one too. How long were you in the hospital and how long for recovery? Was it as painful as your hyst. Mine was abdominal I forgot to look and see what yours was. I am really doing good from mine and glad it is over with but don't want to ever go through that much pain and that long of recovery again. It will be a year Oct. 29 and I have just started feeling really good in the past week or two. Everyone said it would take a year to get over but I did not believe them.

Let me know how your hernia surgery went please. Where is your hernia. Mine is near my belly button.

Ritz,

How long were you in the hospital after your hernia repair? did you need major pain meds the second day? Where was the hernia? Did they use the mesh patch?

Thanks
