Second opinion?

Hi again, I am wondering how people feel about getting a second opinion. I have stage 1a1 adenocarcinoma with the recommendation for a simple abdominal hysterectomy. It seems pretty clear cut. The only debate I have is TVH or TAH at the moment. For a case like this do people think it is necessary to get another opinion. I have little experience with western medicine, haven't been through this kind of thing with friends or family. I could get one for free through the HMO or I could pay the $1000 and go to some place like Stanford or UCSF which are supposed to have great cancer facilities. I am going to Kaiser in Oakland which is a crappy HMO but my doctor is really cool. And good looking too which makes going to the oncologist sort of fun. I was wondering if people who have had similar kind of cancer sought addition opinions.

thanks
Lisa

Second Opinion

It's always a good idea to get a second opinion. Be sure that you are consulting with and having your surgery done by a gynecological oncologist. Those doctors are the most qualified when you are dealing with cancer. If you have to go outside your HMO and pay a co-pay, it is worth it to be seen by a gyn/onc.

Second opinion?

s Lisa

You would never regret getting a second opinion, that's for sure. Your original gyn oncologist can still be the one to do the surgery. You sound like you like him alot. However, since you are unsure of the TAH vs. TVH, a second opinion might really be helpful to you.
Best wishes.
