Upcoming hysterectomy 9/14: Organ donor

Why is my mind playing tricks on me? I am an organ donor and I have myself dying during this hysterectomy bc they want to harvest my organs. Please organ donors please tell me that yall made it through surgery lol .

well i made it through. But i always get upset whenever i have to go in the hospital for something because they always ask are you an organ donor, do you have a living will, do you have a religious faith? Once i was asked those questions i asked them why they were asking and if they planned to kill me i now see and understand its a procedure but it still freaks me out. I was even asked those questions for an mri and the mri i had was with contrast but no anesthesia was involved so to this day i still don’t know why those questions were necessary for JUST an MRI. So my mind starts wandering like oh my god i’m going to suffocate in that thing so they need to know the answers to those questions? Lol I don’t know maybe because they consider it an outpatient procedure. But i think its normal for your mind to go in crazy unrealistic places when you’re anxious and anticipating surgery or anything hospital related.

I am an organ donor. And when the hospital was going through their particulars during my pre-op before my surgery, they did ask that question: "Are you an organ donor?" I swallowed hard and answered "Yes." They also asked about a Living Will (Yes for me), and who is my medical power of attorney (my DH). I made it through the surgery just fine with no missing organs

It can be freaky, but I look at it as the nurse is just completing the form - nothing more and nothing less. And it is my desire, when I die, that what organs are usable be used. My late mom was not an organ donor because she was worried that they would come for her in the middle of the night. As it turned out, she died of lymphoma so it did not matter - cancer patients cannot be organ donors. My FIL was upset because he could not donate organs due to his cancer diagnosis. The only thing we could donate was his corneas after he died.

Surgery is very stressful. It is okay to freakout! I think we all did.

Thanks so much. Yes it is my desire to give my organs to someone who can use them but, I dont want to die to do it lol .

No one asked me that I recall, but I AM a registered organ donor. Still kickin'!

My organ donor instructions are in my Power of Health Care along with DNR orders. I am petrified of anesthesia so planning ahead made me feel more in control. As did, making my pain medication requests (no opioids) clear.
