I Got my port-a-cath put in yesterday. All in all I feel fine, although if feels like I just got kicked by the biggest horse on this earth. OUCH!!!. I think this hurts worse than my hysterectomy. I guess how soon we forget. I guess it just feels like it because I am recovered from the hyst. I just think of how much this is going to help my veins. Thank you all for your support.

Sure Helps Those Veins!

The other thing is, while having chemo, both your hands are free and that makes it easier to write, read, do crosswords, knit, etc. and use the bathroom. I didn't have any pain after the local wore off on mine--I was amazed. May yours ease quickly.

s Jane

The day I had my port put in, I also received my first chemo. I was probably too concerned about the after effects of the chemo to think too much about the port. I like to sleep with my left arm up under my head. And it did take a few days before I could get back into that comfortable position.
But rest assured, soon it will just be another part of your body.

PS: The only down sides to my port are the shoulder harness part of the car's seat belt system and not being comfortable on roller coasters with those big plastic shoulder harnesses. I am afraid the port could crack.

Glad the port placement went well. Sorry it's knocked you for a loop...it will make the chemo easier.

I hope the pain has begun to ease for you. It sure can be pretty painful the first few days then once it starts easing it seems to ease quickly.

I hope the chemo goes well and hope that you'll have minimal side effects with it.
