mammogram question

Got the report back,
confused about a phrase:

"clinincal correlation of enlarged left axillary lymph node is recommended"
what is clinical correlation?

Thanks,
Sabrina

mammogram question

Sabrina!

"Clinical correlation" means that the doctor has to interpret the findings in the setting of whatever is going on with you...i.e., if you have some sort of illness that can enlarge your lymph nodes (like some viruses can do), then they know to expect that particular finding.

Is there any chance that this is related to all the other stuff you've been going through? Lymph nodes can be enlarged for so many reasons, and the report doesn't seem to say just how enlarged it is.

Also, if you had other lymph nodes (for example, in your neck) that were enlarged, then this particular one that the mammo picked up would go along with whatever was swelling them all. OTOH, if it's just isolated, they may want to look at it further...and I would at least ask your doctor to take a "feel" and tell you what he/she thinks.

Good luck...never enough to worry about with all this, is there???
