CIN III Doctor Recommends Hysterectomy

Hi Ladies,
I am wondering if anyone out there has had a hysterectomy for severe dysplasia III. My situation began with an abnormal pap, which led to colpo, biopsy, leep, cone, ECC and D&C. The pathology results from leep conization say GRADE III CIN involving endocervical gland but not extending to leep margins. The doctor says hysterectomy and she is also advising to take ovaries. I have been all over the internet reading all medical information, recommended treatments, clinical trials and it is all so confusing and overwhelming. :confuse: Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has gone or is going through a similar experience.

Hugs and prayers to all of you.

Welcome to Cancer Concerns. You have just landed in a great place for support, advice, and encouragement. Many of the ladies that post here have a diagnosis similar to yours. I know they'll be along shortly. My own situation was quite different.
I would like to say however, that whenever you have any doubts about a recommended treatment plan, please get a second opinion. And let that second opinion be with an gyn oncologist. They are the experts.
Best wishes to you.

CIN III Doctor Recommends Hysterectomy

My dr was hopeful that the Cone took care of the problem (clear margins) but my pap 3 mo's later again came back abnormal and he recommended the surgery. My path report from the hyst showed CIN3/CIS. I was post-menopausal by then so there was not much discussion about keeping the ovaries.

This was my second bout with the condition. The first time around I had a Cone and my paps were normal for 10 yrs.

I know about "confused & overwhelmed" and am sending lots of hugs your way.

CIN III Doctor Recommends Hysterectomy

Hi Carmanni!

I am four weeks post-op from hysterectomy due to CIN III. I also went through the whole colpo, biopsy, leep, cone..... After two more abnormal paps, the doc recommended a hyst. She felt there was insufficent tissue left to have another leep, and the safest route was to do the surgery.

I saw a gyn/onc for a second opinion. He felt it would be possible to perform another leep. After giving it alot of thought, I decided to go ahead with the hyst. For me, the time waiting for results after each procedure was torture. I didn't want to have the leep, go through the wait, and then find out I still needed to have the hyst.

I kept my ovaries as I am only 40 and have not had any problems with them. Recovery from surgery has been uneventful, and I will be returning to work tomorrow.

Hope this helps,
Kedda

CIN III Doctor Recommends Hysterectomy

I had my hyst in may of this year. i was diagnosed with cin 111 but i also had a prolapsed uterus, so My specialist left the overies in being that i am only 37. After my colposcopy and biopsy results came in ,he said being that i also had a serious prolapse and was finished having children that i should just have the hysterectomy right away. hope this info helps abit.
wishing you all the best

Thanks to all of you who stopped here to help -- Somehow it helps just to know that you are not the only one going through something.
Karen, EM & Wandmr thanks for your advice as you have walked this path, Kedda I hope your recovery is going well, Lynne it seems like our lives are on the same path...let us know what happens with you on Thursday.
My insurance requires I return to Primary Dr. for second opinion, so I have set an appointment with her for Thursday. I will let you know how things go. I plan on asking to see gyn/oncologist as that seems to be the way to go. I was wondering, those of you who had hysterectomy....did gyn/oncologist perform it or your original gynecologist?
One more embarassing question those of you who have had a leep...during the weeks after did you experience any discomfort compartible to when a tampon becomes uncomfortable??
Hugs and prayers to you all

CIN III

Hi. I had pretty much the same thing. HGSIL/CIN II on a pap, HGSIL/CIN III on a colposcopy, CIN III/CIS on a conization that had clear margins but also found endocervical glandular involvement. The dr. said we could wait and do paps every 3 mos. after the conization, but both he and the oncologist recommended a hyst. since I am 39 and am not going to have children. I did a lot of research and couldn't find many clear answers.

I have had abnormal pap smears for 10+ years (with various treatments that worked for a while), and this time the results were the worst I ever had. I decided the bad cells were probably just going to come back again, so I went for the hyst. The CIS and the glandular cell involvement really concerned me. Research says abnormal glandular cells grow a lot more aggressively than the bad squamous cells, and I didn't want to give them a chance to prove it inside me.

I had an LAVH on 10/23 leaving my ovaries - dr. recommendation and my preference. I am healing well.

I wish you luck. This is a tough decision because there are not a lot of clear answers.

Hi!

It really IS so comforting to come here and feel like you are not going through this alone. I hate to keep bringing it up to my DH and friends, although I'm sure they would listen. This is a wonderful site for ladies like us.

About the LEEP, I really didnt have much discomfort in the weeks following the procedure. Some bleeding, but an uneventful recovery.

We'll talk after Thursday to compare notes!!

I, too, have had a similar situation. I've had abnormal paps for 12 years, colposcopies, cone biopsies, etc, but no leeps. Just finished having my kids, and doc finally suggested I just have done with it and do the hyst. I am fine with this and haven't asked for a second opinion. If I hadn't had all the kids I want I think I would have put it off as long as possible, asking for 3rd and 4th opinions if necessary.

Just know that you are not alone. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
