Anyone know how big a cyst can be taken via lap?

I go for q follow up sono on Mon. to see if this "cyst" on my right ovary is any smaller(NOT!) and was wondering if anyone knows how big a cyst they can take out via laparoscopy? It was 5 cms. and I'm afraid it is going to get bigger and then...well i really don't want to even think about it. Also having a CA-125 on Mon. Yipee, here we go again! Any info would be appreciated! Thanks, Tickles(Cathy)

Anyone know how big a cyst can be taken via lap?

(((Cathy)))<--1st time I've seen your 'real' name,
I dont know the answer to this but I would think it would depend on the type of cyst it is and sometimes they dont know until they are in there Certain types contain fluid or blood, or Cancerous cells which they would most certainly not want to risk spilling their contents into your abdominal cavity, which could possibly happen if the cyst is large and they try to pull it thru a Lap incision...I'll post the links I do have about Ovarian Cysts. I'll also look around and see if I can find some more definate info for you:

Thanks Sheri!

Sheri, thanks so much for the links, I will check them all out....things have been crazy around here so i haven't been able to post. Kids were sick with strep, then our cat (Tickles) died, then we adopted two new kitties, plus my ongoing "fun"! It's been hectic to say the least. So, thank you so much for the info...Love to you, and I'll let you know how big it looks after tommorows appt. Hugs to ya, Cathy

Anyone know how big a cyst can be taken via lap?

Cathy,
I don't know the answer to your question, but I had a 4cm cyst removed via a lap. I also had my left ovary and falopian tube removed via lap. You might want to ask your doctor next time you see see him.

Good luck sweetie I hope the ultrasound will show that the cyst has shrunk.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. I have 3 cats myself and they really are like my children.

Anyone know how big a cyst can be taken via lap?

Hi there. I just had my right ovary removed via lap because of several cysts, one being fairly big that had wrapped around other areas.
My doc had thought she would not be able to do a lap because I had a 12 pound cyst removed along with my left ovary and that of course was major surgery. Also I had a hysterectomy that was again the long vertical cut.
She thought the scar tissue would prevent a lap.
But she tried and succeeded.
I also had the ca 125 test and it came back good!
It's really scary isn't it?

I had a 10cm ovarian cyst that was going to be removed via lap until an ultra sound suggested borderline cancer. As Sheri says, they didn't want to risk spilling & leaving any cancerous cells behind.

Best wishes to you.
