Start Treatments Monday

Hey! I've been there too. I always had a sense of dread when it got close to chemo time, but the nurses were so wonderful, and I always had a friend go with me. It was not fun, but I got through. My Taxol treatments were 5 hours long also. I Brought things to eat and magazines to read. I really didn't feel like reading anything deep. I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow. Prayers really work! Buy the way, it's been almost 5 years since my diagnosis. Yeah!

Jane,

you are definitely not alone in worrying if the treatments will work. I am supposed to start chemo and radiation next week pending the results of tomorrows Pet Scan. I have lots of adhesions from Aug surgery that has been causing intestinal blockages and the dr's aren't sure if my intestines will be able to handle the radiation,. My chemo will only be given with the radiation, so if they decide to hold off on the radiation until my intestines heal, I will have to hold off on the chemo too while the cancer grows My faith in God and the prayers of my friends are really keeping me at peace most of the time, but it is still hard. I pray everything goes well with you.

Hi Jane,
I just had my first chemo treatment last Thursday. I too had many misgivings, but I have to say, it really wasn't all that bad. If anything, because it was my first treatment, it took most of the day and it was difficult to stay still!

First they ran in an IV with Benadryl, an anti-nausea med, and a steriod. Then came the Taxol for 3 hours, then the Carboplatin which took about 45 minutes. The nurses and volunteers were absolutely amazing and did everything possible to make me comfortable.

I found it a little difficult to read because there was a lot going on. Next time I am taking my hand held games - Yahtzee and Poker! I took some snacks but kept them light, fruit cup, crackers, water. since I wasn't sure how I'd react to the treatment. But all went well, and I'm sure you will do just fine too.

I did visualize as the drugs began that they were waves of healing, liquid light that would render any evil cancer cells harmless and restore me to radiant good health. I remind myself that one has to go through wind and storm before finding a rainbow.

Best of luck. You are in my prayers.

Jane,
you are in my thoughts and prayer's. I did not have to go thru radiation/chemo, but being scared is normal.
Sending you a special er and an Army of Angels your way.

s Jane

I am arriving late at your thread, so by now that first chemo is done. Hopefully it was fairly easy for you with minimal side effects. How is that port doing?
Please give us an update when you are up to it.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
