One month post hysterectomy - bladder infection and antibiotic concern

Hi, was wondering if anyone has taken Ciprofloxacin for a uti. My husband picked up a script today from the doctors and had it filled. I have just finished reading about the side effects of this drug and it is totally scaring the crap out of me. Unable to contact doctor back because has left town for rest of the week. Will try to phone surgeon/gyno tomorrow to get heir take on this drug, has anyone else taken this drug? I am so scared!!!!! Not sure whether to start taking it or not as I may not be able to speak with gyno straight away. Apparently the uti I have is not all that common and this was the suggested drug. I have read numerous posts on this drug and they are not good, downright scary in fact. I wish I never had this freakin op!!!! I am do over it.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. From what I have read it is scaring the crap out of media. I already have tingling in my left thigh and I don’t want to be subjected to anything further. I find understand why my doctor or the oharamacidt for that matter didn’t mention the side effects. Think I will check further with the gun:surgeon I was under in the morning to get her opinion. It also says that it can cause liver kidney problems - not happy about talk.g this because I had liver problems with both pregnancies and they are up and down all over the place. I just hope they can give me something else with less severe side effects. I don’t want to risk anymore complications. I am so scared and do t know who to turn to.

Thanks Lauren, I jabr decided that I am not going to risk it and I am going to check with my gyn/surgeon in about 4 hours. I have been up all night (live in Australia) just worrying about it. I am so tired and just wish this to be all over. I wish doctors could be more open about things it really gives me the ****s!!!!

Re: One month post hysterectomy - bladder infection and antibiotic concern

update spoke with Gyn/surgeon and has prescribed a course of Alprim for bladder infection. The bug that was showing in urine sample was Providencia Stuartii. Has anyone had this type of bladder infection before and if so is it currable with antibiotics. Believe I received the infection whilst in hospital due to catheter. Any insight greatly appreciated.

Online reading says that medication is most common one used, world wide for UTI’s. That bug is caused by catheter use in hospital and nursing home settings it says. Take care and all should be fixed once you finish your round of medication.

Re: One month post hysterectomy - bladder infection and antibiotic concern

Thank you Lauren, I think I need to stop googling. Everything is so frightening. Was worried when GP said it was an infection that he never really heard of before. Wasn’t sure that they had much success with curing this type of infection. Here we go again anxiety is getting the better of me again. I don’t want to do anything to impede my recovery. Thanks for your support through all of this.
