Does ov.cancer show on CT scan?

I hope you don't mind my asking, but I'm waiting for my CA-125 test results as we speak and was wondering if anyone knows if Ovarian cancer shows up on a CT scan, or if certain types do? I had a CT in Aug. but I've heard that does not always tell the tale. I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this? Thank you in advance! Love to all, Cathy (Tickles)

Does ov.cancer show on CT scan?

s Cathy

A CAT scan can show tumor activity or abnormal growths.
It is one of many diagnostic tools.
I can't quite recall your history, but I think you have had surgery.
If you could provide more details about your history, your question could be answered more clearly.
In regards to ovarian cancer:
A CAT scan before the surgery will show areas of possible metastasis. A biopsy is still necessary to confirm the diagnosis.
After ovarian cancer surgery my own gyn onc has me CATTED every six months. It varies from doc to doc. A recurrence usually first appears in an elevating ca 125. Often CAT scans show no tumor growth until it reaches a certain size.
Hope this helps you.
Best wishes.

CT Scan

I've been told small seeding will not show but anything over 1 cm. should appear on a CT scan. It is helpful pre-surgery so the doctor can do debulking and to show where it is; it is good on followup to see if tumors are shrinking or remaining or if nothing shows up. In a recurrence it can show where that recurrence is. Hope this helps.

Does ov.cancer show on CT scan?

Hi Tickles,
I do not think that the cat scan as actually show cancer but it does show if there are any tumors. When i had my first cat scan it showed the tumor on my ovaries and the size of it. I think that my surgeon did suspect cancer even though he did not say it to me.
I finished my chemo treatments in Sept. and then had my first "after chemo abdominal and pelvic cat scan". Thank goodness it came back all clear. I am not sure how often i will need to have this done but i am willing to go along with whatever my oncologist says.
Take care and feel well.
